Some health problems are not life-threatening, but should be treated right away. Examples include minor cuts, sprains and ear infections.
Steps to take when you need urgent care
- Call your Primary Care Provider (PCP). Your PCP will tell you how to get the right care. Quartz requires all participating PCPs to have 24-hour call coverage.
- Your PCP may tell you to go to a clinic you don’t normally use. If the clinic is not in network, call Quartz Customer Service at 800.362.3310 after the visit. Your doctor or nurse may also tell you to use an emergency room.
You can also use the Find a Doctor tool to find an urgent care clinic covered by your plan. You’ll need to have your ID card handy so you will know what network to select. Choose “Facility”, then “Urgent Care” to find clinics near you.
Note: If you go to urgent care, you must pay the co-payment (if your plan has co-payments for urgent care). Services from a non-participating provider are covered up to the usual, customary and reasonable charge (UCR). You may be responsible for paying charges that are above the UCR and other out-of-pocket costs.
For HMO members: If you are outside of Quartz's service area, call Quartz Customer Service at 800.362.3310 before you go to urgent care. On weekdays, call between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday or call between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Fridays for prior approval. If the urgent care visit was on an evening, weekend or holiday, call Quartz after your urgent care visit.
If you are a POS, Choice, Choice Plus, My Choice or PPO member, you can visit non-participating providers. Please check your plan to make sure you understand your benefits. For My Choice members, services are covered up to the usual, customary and reasonable charge (UCR). You may be responsible for paying charges that are above the UCR and other out-of-pocket costs.
