February is Heart Healthy Month

February is Heart-Healthy Month and the Best Time to GO RED®!

February is American Heart Month, a federally designated event designed to raise awareness about heart disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, one in four deaths is caused by heart disease. Fortunately, heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. Employers can support employees and their families by raising awareness, providing education and creating opportunities for them to make healthier choices.

There are many resources available for employers to help educate employees about heart health year-round. February, as healthy heart month, is a great time to kick off new workplace wellness initiatives. Check out these tools and tips –

Go Red for Women®

Go Red For Women® is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. Cardiovascular diseases in the U.S. kill approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women® advocates for more research and swifter action for women's heart health. National Wear Red Day® is Friday, February 2, 2018. Everyone is encouraged to wear red by purchasing a red dress pin at Macy’s or by making a donation at CVS stores nationwide.
