HEDIS® is a set of health care performance measures that cover different areas of care, such as chronic care management and prevention and screening. HEDIS is used by more than 90 percent of the nation’s health plans to evaluate performance in clinical quality and customer service. Some measures use data collected from claims and others use data collected through claims plus medical chart review. HEDIS can also use other data sources such as the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). Health plans may use HEDIS measures to focus efforts on quality improvement initiatives.
