Top-Rated Health Insurance Ranking Includes Unity Health in Nation's Top 10 Percent

SAUK CITY – September 19, 2013 – Unity Health Insurance, affiliated with UW Health, has been ranked among the top 10 percent of health-insurance plans nationwide for their commercial HMO and POS products by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits insurance plans across the country. The recognition is part of NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2013-2014.

Unity moved up in the NCQA rankings from 49 last year to 43 this year. Of the 574 plans eligible for ranking, NCQA identified 474 that reported enough data to be included in the rankings. Unity has ranked in the top 50 NCQA-ranked health plans for nine years in a row*, **.

The NCQA uses three broad measures to rank health plans: consumer satisfaction with the plan (25 percent of the score), clinical quality (60 percent) and an assessment of the plan’s quality processes (15 percent). Only health plans that publicly report data are ranked.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized as one of the nation’s highest-rated health insurance plans,” said Terry Bolz, president and CEO of Unity Health Insurance. “Our integration with UW Health as well as our dedication to our members is displayed through this ongoing recognition.”

NCQA, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality, accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care.
